Awards and Accolades - Spring 2017

  • Charis Boke, PhD candidate in the Department of Anthropology, was awarded a grant from the Wood Institute at the Library of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia

  • PhD Candidate Laura Cocora was awarded a travel grant from the Society for the Humanities for her project:  Engaging what is to come:  Happiness as public project in Japan.  

  • Alexandra Dalferro, PhD candidate in Anthropology, was awarded a PhD Dissertation Research Fellowship from the Center for Khmer Studies in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

  • Vincent Ialenti, PhD candidate, was awarded a MacArthur Nuclear Waste Solutions Fellowship to conduct nuclear waste policy research with Professor Allison Macfarlane (former Chair of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission) at The George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs in Washington DC. 

  • PhD candidate Rachel Odhner was awarded a Sustainability Research Grant from the Society for the Humanities for her project:  Connectivity and Conservation in Greytown, Nicaragua.  

  • Professor Oneka LaBennett was awarded an Engaged Opportunity Grant from Engaged Cornell. Elena Guzman (Ph.D. Candidate in Anthropology) is part of the team for this project.

  • Professors Emeriti Kathryn March and David Holmberg received two awards earlier this winter:  Honorary Membership from the Tamang Society of America and an award presented by Hon. Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki, Nepalese Ambassador to the U.S., from The Tamang Society of Greater Washington in recognition of their dedication and hard work to support the Tamang and the Nepalese community.

  • Mariangela Mihai, Amir Mohamed, and Elif Sari were awarded Engaged Graduate Student Grants from Engaged Cornell.
