Anthropology’s ‘Jewish problem’ examined
Many of America’s early
ethnographers were Jewish—including Franz Boas, often called the “father” of
American anthropology—yet Jewish culture was and has remained largely a
marginal subject in anthropology, said Jonathan Boyarin on November 26 at the
A.D. White House. Boyarin examined aspects of anthropology’s “Jewish problem”
in a talk entitled “Trickster's Children: Jewishness and the Generations of
Anthropology,” sponsored by the Jewish Studies Program. Full Story
