After spending a year as a postdoctoral fellow at Oberlin College, Sabia McCoy-Torres has accepted a tenure-track job at Tulane University. The position is a joint appointment in and the Program in Africana Studies. Sabia has a Ph.D. in sociocultural anthropology from Cornell (awarded in 2015). Her research focuses on the English and Spanish speaking African Diaspora, race, gender/sexuality, place/space, transnationalism, and Black popular culture. Dr. McCoy-Torres’ current book project uses reggae culture as an ethnographic lens to interpret these dynamics within the West Indian Diaspora in Costa Rica and Brooklyn, New York. She has forthcoming articles in Black Music Research Journal and in Transforming , for which she is a Contributing Editor.
