Stacey Langwick, Associate Professor in the Department of , leads an interdisciplinary group of anthropologists, artists, and global health studies scholars through the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies, known as the Qualities of Life working group. They are organizing a community art project entitled "Planting Futures" from 10:00 am 12:30 pm on Thursday, December 8th. Attendees can come and write down what they'd like to cultivate - the quality of life they'd like to protect and nurture - and plant it with a flower for spring. The goal is to grow a garden of hopes - for one's own life, for our campus, and for the world. Students, faculty and staff can stop by at their convenience to reflect for a moment on what they would like to grow and nurture in the coming months. This is an important question in these wintry times. Students can participate in 5 or 10 minutes between their finals and studying. The Qualities of Life group have 1600 bulbs waiting to be planted outside the upper entrance of the Cornell Store.
“One of the most powerful acts is articulating what one hopes for even when it might seem far away. The Planting Futures project will result in a garden of the diverse things that we as a Cornell community stand for and that we commit to protecting and growing. It will hold our visions of the future we are excited to work for and to live into. We also hope that the happening this Thursday will be moment for people to feel a sense of companionship and community. There is power in making beauty together,” said Stacey Langwick.
Lucinda Ramberg, Associate Professor in the Department of , and Rebekah Ciribassi, an anthropology graduate student , are also active members of the Qualities of Life working group.
