Jonathan Boyarin, Mann Professor of Modern Jewish Studies and Professor of , was awarded a Humanities Research Grant from the Society for the Humanities.
His project, A Jewish of the Present, is a collaborative research grant supporting a new joint project between Boyarin and Martin Land.
A native of New York City, Martin Land is a theoretical physicist living in Jerusalem. He is the president of the International Association for Relativistic Dynamics and teaches computer science at Hadassah College and the Open University of Israel.
"We share a long-standing interest in cultural and physical aspects of time. In this moment of world crisis we plan to think and write together about what it means to be Jewish in the present, and what resources Jewish culture might offer for ways to think about a threatened future," said Jonathan Boyarin.
The grant will also enable Land to participate in a symposium March 18 with Cornell faculty and graduate students.
