Featured Anthropology Major: Sophie Josephson

Sophie Josephson '26 reflects on her experiences at Cornell prior to graduation. Sophie majored in Anthropology and minored in Business and Psychology.

What inspired you to choose anthropology as your major?  Do you have a specific area of interest?
I discovered a passion for anthropology after reading Anthro-Vision by Gillian Tett, which showed me how understanding human behavior and culture can offer powerful insights into the modern world. That perspective led me to pursue anthropology as my major, while also connecting it to my interest in business to better understand how people think, interact, and make decisions.

What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I will be working in NYC in the Financial Services Industry.

What do you think you'll miss most about Cornell after graduation?
I will miss my favorite study and lunch spot Temple of Zeus.

What advice would you give to incoming anthropology majors?
To take anthropology classes that you think you may not even be interested in, because that is where you may unexpectedly find your passion.
