Kaitlyn Tice: ‘I am capable of accomplishing much more than I thought possible, and am more independent and brave’

What are the most valuable skills you gained from your Arts & Sciences education?

Personally, I loved being an anthropology major who was also pre-med. I got an amazing education in the sciences background, but I was able to take so many other interesting and uncommon courses like Scottish Literature or Primates and Politics that I feel I really broadened the scope of knowledge I was gaining.

What is your main extracurricular activity — why is it important to you?

My main extra curricular activity is Cornell EMS. I joined my freshman spring semester, and it’s been one of the most rewarding parts of my Cornell experience. It’s kinda bizarre sometimes to be in uniform, responding to medical calls for people who trust you to take care of them, despite you perhaps being the same age! I learned a lot about responsibility, but also made so many incredible friends and got to know the campus in a way many don’t.

How have you changed since you first arrived at Cornell? What have you discovered about yourself?

I definitely have a much better work ethic now than I did—general chemistry in freshman year was a very scarring and eye-opening experience. However, through it all, I discovered that I am capable of accomplishing much more (in much less time) than I thought possible, and am more independent and brave now.
