November 1st Deadline Announced for Freedman and Engaged Learning Awards

The Department of has many partners on campus and around the world that enable our students to explore collaborative research opportunities. The Department of is pleased to announce a new round of competition for the Freedman Award for Undergraduate Research in and the Engaged Learning in Scholarships. 

The Freedman Fund for Undergraduate Research is funded by an endowment established by Randy ‘75 and Howard ‘74, MBA ‘75 Freedman.  The Freedman Award supports anthropological research by undergraduate students.  Research may be undertaken in support of a thesis, as part of a class project, in connection with the Collections, or in collaboration with a faculty member. Awards of up to $3000 will be awarded for research conducted in winter or spring of 2022.

The Engaged Learning in Scholarships were established by an anonymous donor.  The Engaged Learning in Scholarships are designed to support students who seek training in anthropological techniques or want to participate in an anthropological engaged learning opportunity. Awards of up to $2500 will be awarded for engaged projects conducted in winter or spring of 2022.

Examples of research-related activities and Engaged Learning Opportunities that may be funded, along with details about eligibility and the application process are available at our Research Page.  The deadline for Application is November 1, 2021.

The Department of is grateful for generous donors who make these awards possible.  They provide students with opportunities for transformative research and experiences.  

All proposals must comply with COVID-19 policies and guidelines, including student travel policies. Funds will be disbursed only for expenses deemed eligible under current Cornell guidelines.
