David Holmberg, Professor Emeritus of , and Kathryn March, Professor Emerita of , received two awards in recognition of their work with the Tamang Society.
Holmberg and March were awarded "Honorary Membership" from the Tamang Society of America in New York City on January 28, 2017. This award was presented by Shanta Bahadur Thokar, President of the Tamang Society of America. Their award reads: “For your outstanding contribution in the research and anthropological study of the TAMANG indigenous peoples in Nepal and for your lifelong dedication towards the advancement of our peoples.”
The Tamang Society of America was established in 2002 with the purpose of preserving culture and heritage and promoting mutual cooperation among all Tamang people living in and outside the United States.
Professors Holmberg and March also received awards from the Tamang Society of Greater Washington "in recognition of their dedication and hard work to support the Tamang and the Nepalese community." This honor was presented by Hon. Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki, Nepalese Ambassador to the U.S. in Washington, DC on February 3, 2017.
