Shay Xianyang Zhang

Overview

Shay Xianyang Zhang is a PhD student in sociocultural anthropology. His major intellectual interest concerns the human and environmental condition, labor, and the consequences of globalization, which currently faces various rapidly developing challenges across the political spectrum. Currently, his research explores how the aquacultural supply chain of American eels integrates global trade, conservation efforts, and tribal sovereignty while reshaping control over resources, ecological priorities, and political-economic power. Additionally, Shay is devoted to creative writing and social activism.

Originally from Beijing, China, Shay Xianyang Zhang (张显扬) received his BA in Anthropology from the University of Michigan
